Frequently Asked Questions

How do Lower Suction dentures work so well?

Lower Suction Dentures (SEMCD) achieve their secure fit by starting with a precise, detailed impression of your gums. This allows the denture to mirror every natural contour of your lower jaw, creating a tight seal and strong suction that keeps the denture firmly in place, whether you’re talking, eating, or smiling.

Using the latest materials and techniques, these dentures are carefully crafted to provide a natural look and comfortable function. Best of all, they require no surgery, no implants, and no messy adhesives, even for clients with very low gums.

Is there a way to secure my full lower denture without implants?

For the clients who are not able to secure their dentures with dental implants we offer SEMCD or Lower Suction dentures. This revolutionary new technique allows us to create air-tight seal around the denture border which prevents lower denture from lifting and floating in the mouth.

How do I know that I will like my new dentures?

Before your dentures are finished, you will have a “Try In” appointment. During that appointment we will check your bite, denture fit, make sure that you are able to speak properly. We will also make sure that you are 100% happy with how your new smile looks. And if at any point during your “Try In” appointment you would like to make any changes to your dentures, no matter how big or small, we will make any adjustments necessary. We will re-try the dentures after the changes are made, to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with the final result.

How Long Does It Take to Make Dentures?

Getting dentures made is an essential step for many people to restore their smile, confidence, and oral functionality. The process of creating dentures involves multiple stages to ensure a perfect fit, comfort, and durability. Understanding the timeline can help you prepare and plan accordingly. While the exact time varies depending on the type of dentures and individual needs, here’s what you can expect during the process.

Factors That Influence the Timeline

The time it takes to make dentures depends on several factors, including the type of dentures and the condition of your oral health.

For traditional Complete or Partial dentures, the process typically takes 4-6 weeks and involves multiple appointments. These visits include taking impressions, trying in a wax model, and making necessary adjustments before the final set is ready. If extractions are needed, healing time may add several weeks to the timeline.

For Immediate dentures, which are created before extractions and placed right after, the timeline is much shorter, often 1-2 weeks. However, Immediate dentures may require adjustments later as your gums heal and shrink. In contrast, advanced solutions like Implant-supported dentures may take several months because they involve placing dental implants and allowing time for healing and osseointegration (bone fusion).

Why the Process Takes Time

Creating dentures is a precise and customized process. Each step ensures the dentures fit comfortably and function properly.

Denturists carefully measure your mouth and create detailed impressions to build a model. This model is refined through multiple fittings to ensure your dentures not only look natural but also fit securely. The fabrication process involves crafting dentures from durable materials that mimic the appearance of natural teeth. The time invested in these steps ensures your new dentures will provide optimal comfort and functionality.

What Are Implant Dentures and What Are the Benefits?

Implant-supported dentures are a revolutionary solution for individuals seeking a secure and long-lasting option to replace missing teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, which rest on the gums, Implant dentures are anchored to dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone. This advanced technique offers improved stability, functionality, and aesthetics. Here’s an in-depth look at Implant dentures and their benefits.

How Implant Dentures Work

Implant dentures are supported by titanium posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone. These posts act as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for the dentures. After the implants are placed, a healing period allows the jawbone to fuse with the implants in a process called osseointegration. Once healed, the dentures are securely attached to the implants, either through a snap-on mechanism or a permanent fixed bridge.

This method provides unparalleled stability compared to traditional dentures. Implant-supported dentures are designed for both upper and lower jaws and are ideal for individuals with sufficient bone density to support implants.

Benefits of Implant Dentures

  • Improved Stability: Implant dentures remain firmly in place, eliminating slipping or shifting when eating or speaking.

  • Enhanced Chewing Function: You can eat a wider variety of foods with confidence, restoring your ability to enjoy meals fully.

  • Preserved Bone Health: Implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss commonly associated with traditional dentures.

  • Natural Appearance: Implant-supported dentures look and feel more like natural teeth, improving overall aesthetics.

  • Longevity: With proper care, Implant dentures can last for decades, making them a cost-effective long-term solution.

Implant dentures are a life-changing option for those looking to improve their quality of life and restore their smile with a secure and natural-feeling solution.

How to Properly Clean Your Dentures

Cleaning your dentures regularly is essential to maintain your oral health, keep your dentures looking their best, and prevent unpleasant odors or stains. Since dentures are not self-cleaning, improper care can lead to a buildup of bacteria, plaque, and tartar, just like natural teeth. Whether you’re new to dentures or want to improve your cleaning routine, following the correct steps can make all the difference. Proper cleaning ensures your dentures last longer and remain comfortable to wear. Below, we explain how to effectively clean your dentures and why it’s so important.

Daily Cleaning Routine for Dentures

Cleaning your dentures every day is crucial for removing food particles, plaque, and bacteria. A consistent routine can also help prevent discoloration and prolong their lifespan.

Start by rinsing your dentures with lukewarm water after every meal. This removes loose debris and helps keep them fresh. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the material of your dentures. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a denture brush to gently scrub all surfaces of the dentures, including the grooves that fit against your gums. Be sure to use a non-abrasive denture cleaner instead of regular toothpaste, as regular toothpaste can be too harsh and create micro-scratches where bacteria can grow.

For a deeper clean, soak your dentures overnight in a denture-cleaning solution. This step disinfects the dentures and helps loosen any stubborn buildup. After soaking, rinse the dentures thoroughly under running water to remove any remaining cleaning solution before putting them back in your mouth. This daily combination of brushing and soaking ensures your dentures remain hygienic and comfortable.

Additional Tips for Denture Care

In addition to daily cleaning, adopting a few extra habits can further protect your dentures and oral health.

Handle your dentures with care by cleaning them over a soft towel or a sink filled with water to prevent damage in case they are dropped. Before placing the dentures in your mouth, brush your gums, tongue, and any natural teeth with a soft toothbrush to remove bacteria and promote better denture fit. Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach, as these can weaken the material and discolor the dentures. Finally, schedule regular visits to your denturist for professional cleaning and adjustments to ensure a proper fit and long-term comfort.

By combining careful handling, proper cleaning, and routine checkups, you can ensure your dentures remain in excellent condition and continue to serve you well.

Conclusion

How should you clean your dentures? A daily routine of rinsing, brushing, and soaking, combined with extra care and professional maintenance, is the best way to ensure your dentures remain clean and functional. Proper cleaning not only protects your dentures but also supports your oral health.

How long do dentures last?

On average, dentures last 5–10 years before needing to be replaced.

Over time, dentures naturally wear down, stain, and lose their fit as your mouth and gums continue to change shape. Even though your natural teeth are gone, your oral tissues are always evolving, which can affect the comfort and function of your dentures.

To keep your dentures working their best, you may need a reline, rebase, or a full remake at some point. Scheduling an annual check-up with us is the best way to extend their lifespan, maintain a proper fit, and prevent potential problems.
