Our Denture Faqs

What foods should I eat after getting dentures?

When you get new dentures, you should stick to soft foods and liquids to give your gums time to adjust to chewing and biting with the dentures. Examples of good foods to eat are:

  • Hot cereals such as porridge
  • Applesauce
  • Pudding
  • Jello
  • Mashed vegetables
  • Juice
  • Yogurt

As you transition to solid foods, stick to soft cooked meats, vegetables, legumes and breads and cut them into small pieces to reduce the amount of chewing needed to consume them. There are foods that you will want to avoid in the first week or two as you return to your regular diet including:

  • Sticky foods like peanut butter and gummy candies
  • Foods with small, stubborn pieces like popcorn, shelled nuts and seeds.
  • Hard foods like apples, nuts, and carrot sticks
  • Tough meats like pork chops, steak and ribs.

These foods can apply uneven pressure to dentures and gums, causing the dentures to become dislodged and food to get trapped under them. This will cause irritation of the gums and be incredibly uncomfortable or painful.
